Biography

John established Sourdust Pottery in 1991 at the age of 19, after training with Nexus Design. He quickly established a reputation for innovative ceramics, supplying a wide range of quality gift retailers and galleries throughout the UK. Since the turn of the century he's been based in Stocksfield, near Newcastle and has focused on the creation of of unique, high quality ceramics for galleries.

As well as exhibiting with a network of galleries, since 1997 he has been a regular exhibitor at Potfest events around the country. The quality, ingenuity and passion that he puts into his work was acknowledged when he was awarded Potfest Potter of the Year 2020, as judged by other professionals in the field.

During recent years he has been sharing his skills and love of ceramics with others, ranging from primary school children, through college students, to adult learners via night classes, courses and demonstrations.

His current principal areas of work include Naked Raku, Copper Matt Raku and Sculptural Ceramics.
