As the Artist at Garage10, I primarily paint in oil, both still life and explored subjects. However, I also use pencil, and re-sketching my composed genre subjects again and again, allows my initial ideas to evolve, and priorities to change, sometimes beyond all recognition of their origin and to a point at which I’m ready to start painting and where they generally continue to evolve while I complete the brush work. Pencil sketching is critical to my process, and it’s where I discover what I’m going to paint.
