Catherine Imhof-Cardinal is a Swiss-French artist living near Aberdeen in Scotland. She began her career in Aix-en-Provence, France, where she studied sculpture and drawing at the Ecole des Beaux Arts in the early Seventies. Catherine’s work is informed by a strongly developed sense of colour, often in daring and unusual composition of a figurative or semi-abstract nature. Her approach to composition is without preconception; each work gradually emerges from a series of lines thrown onto the sheet, the subject and composition suggesting themselves through the work process. In this way, impressions gathered on travels and from life in general re-emerge in the paintings, not as factual representations but as images imbued with the feeling of places and events.
