Helen Denerley – Acclaimed Scottish Sculptor Working in Reclaimed Steel
Helen Denerley is a renowned Scottish sculptor celebrated for her striking animal sculptures crafted from reclaimed and scrap metal. Based in rural Aberdeenshire, Denerley has developed a distinctive style that transforms discarded industrial materials into elegant, life-like forms, combining strength with delicacy and movement.
Her work explores the beauty of the natural world through the lens of sustainability and reuse. From large-scale public commissions—such as the iconic Dreaming Spires giraffe sculptures on Edinburgh’s Leith Walk—to intimate gallery pieces, Denerley's creations capture the character and anatomy of animals with expressive power and technical mastery.
With international recognition and works in both private and public collections, Helen Denerley continues to inspire with her innovative use of recycled materials and her ability to breathe new life into metal. She exhibits regularly across Scotland, including at Gallery Heinzel in Aberdeen.
