CALUM STEVENSON – SYNTHESIS
"SYNTHESIS" traces Calum Stevenson's journey from winning SkyArts Portrait Artist of the Year 2021/22 to his first major solo exhibition.
"Viewers will notice in these paintings that there’s a change, a switch between the paintings I did for the show and straight after that were necessary to get me into something more abstract. I think this exhibition as a whole is my journey, it's almost like a story. It’s a self portrait in a way."
The experience had a profound impact on his work as he wrestled with the perceived expectation to be a portrait painter, and his desire to force the medium beyond representation.
The exhibition opens at The Dundas Street Gallery, Edinburgh, 6pm, 5th October and is open 10am to 6pm, Thursday to Saturay, and 11am to 4pm Sunday 9th October.
