Overview

Ian was born in Glasgow and studied at Gray’s School of Art, Aberdeen. Whilst at college he specialised in woven textiles and graphic design. He was awarded an R.S.A.D. travel bursary to Switzerland and Italy. After a post-graduate year at Leeds University studying industrial textile design and manufacture, he returned to Aberdeen for teacher training at Aberdeen College of Education. He settled in Aberdeen and taught for many years at secondary level.

Now retired from teaching he works predominantly in watercolour and acrylic and is strongly influenced by the richness and colour of the coast and landscape of Scotland.

2018 saw him exhibit at the Gallery Fabrica La Aurora in San Miguel, Mexico. Paintings now hang worldwide, in countries including Britain, America, Canada, Israel, Italy and Mexico.
