Biography

Lil studied at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art in the late 1950's. In 1961 after a post diploma year, she was awarded a traveling scholarship which carried her to Paris and then around Italy. Upon her return Lil lived and worked in the small fishing village of Catterline. It was during this time that she developed her close and influential relationship with Joan Eardley. Lil's paintings are strong and emotive, often involved with the atmosphere and moods of the land, sea and sky. She displays through texture, colour and broad technique, the variety, power and sometimes intimacy of her surroundings.
