Neighbourhood by Joe Fan RSA
In Neighbourhood, Joe Fan masterfully blurs the lines between memory, architecture, and nature, inviting us into deeply personal landscapes where the spaces we share become intricately woven maps of our lives
For his latest exhibition, Neighbourhood, Royal Scottish Academician Joe Fan turns his eye towards the spaces, structures, and shared boundaries that define human connection. Drawing on his signature blend of surreal architecureal enviroments and intricate personal iconography, Fan explores the concept of the 'neighbourhood' not merely as a physical location (being in his neighbourhood in the litteral sense of the word) but as a complex psycological landscape. This exhibition features stunning collection of structured oil paintings and conte pencip drawings, each serving as an imaginitive playground where memory, community, and the natural world intersect.
Heavily influenced by early Renaissance masters, Arcadian aesthetics and his longstanding connection to his scottish surroundings, Fan creates reconstructured worlds that are simultaneously familiar and otherworldly.
